Electric Bikes Overview

Electric bikes have been around for many years.  Only recently, however, have the motor and battery technologies converged and advanced to a degree that makes electric powered light vehicles practical and desirable for everyday life.

Some events have conspired to make electric bikes the local transport option of the future - today.

  1. Economic Factors:  Petrol prices are rising.  Available money in the bank is reducing as other costs of living rise.
  2. Environmental Factors:  People - and that means YOU - are finally realising that they need to make a change in their lives.  Changing the way we think and ACT.  Reducing fossil fuel consumption, diabetes, obesity and 'carbon footprint' while increasing fitness, reducing stress and saving time.
  3. Technology Factors:
    - Modern electric motors can sense how much power they are putting out and how much power they need to provide to supplement the rider's effort while pulsing their power output to conserve battery power.
    - Modern Lithium batteries now have the power to weight ratio to make them practical, light enough not to be a burden if the electric power runs low and capacity enough to provide a practical range.  Modern bikes and scooters have a range in the region of 30 to 160 kms - more than enough for normal commuting, shopping or family outings.
    - Lightweight Magnesium Alloy frames have fallen in price enabling a lighter basic bike.
